Living with a purpose: Ladji Ruffin’s story highlights the impact of second chances
For the over 650,000 individuals released from incarceration each year, second chances are far and few between. At 2C Workforce Solutions, we’re working to change that by partnering with businesses to give returning citizens the opportunities and resources they need to reintegrate and thrive.
We recently met with Ladji Ruffin, a pioneer of post-incarceration opportunities who himself served 23 years in prison. His inspiring story reminds us of why 2C’s work is so vital to transforming lives and communities through second chances.
During incarceration, Ladji took advantage of a braille learning and transcription program, which he used to launch his own company, Authentic Braille Masters, after release. In addition to running his business, Ladji now trains mentors within prisons and serves as a board member for Rehabilitation Enables Dreams, a nonprofit for juvenile offenders.
Ladji’s life is a powerful reminder of the impact second chances can have on the incarcerated and their communities. But his story doesn’t have to be the exception – it could be a reality for hundreds of thousands of returning citizens. We must provide incarcerated individuals with the tools and resources they need to write their own success story, for everyone’s good.
2C Workforce Solutions is committed to providing returning citizens with the resources they need to successfully reintegrate after incarceration. We understand that reintegration is essential to breaking the cycle of recidivism – and takes more than a checked box. That’s why 2C takes a holistic approach that includes mental health, educational, and training resources. Our goal isn’t just to change the numbers. We’re changing lives.
There can be more Ladji Ruffins in America if individuals, businesses, and communities step up to make a change. Join 2C Workforce Solutions as we strive to transform the justice system by extending hope to everyone.
